Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Review: It Lives Up To Expectation

With new (and old) mobile phones making rounds at MWC 2017, seeing some tablets is a fresh new relief. It is more so because the Android tablet fans have not had their share of upgrades or releases in the recent past. Apart from Pixel C and Nvidia Shield K1 (which is a bit dated now), nothing new has released. With Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 featuring the latest Android 7.0 Nougat releasing in the market, fans will find some solace.

So is it any good? We took a closer look at the tablet to see if it matches the likes of Pixel C and Shield K1. Here’s what we found –

The 9.7 inch Super AMOLED screen is HDR-ready for a superior video quality. The image quality is what will strike you first in this display mold. The colors in the bright areas are also very crisp. Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is competing with the best tabs for an immersive movie or gaming experience.

Design wise Tab S3 has the same design that its predecessor Galaxy S7 featured. The body is full metal covering the high-quality glass back cover. It provides a superb performance in a sleek and elegant glass body. The foldable keyboard cover is a thoughtful addition.

Overall there is nothing new in Galaxy Tab S3, but it does keep the design same as the predecessors, probably because it worked for Samsung the last time.

Galaxy Tab S3 has a Snapdragon 820 Quad-core processor clocked at 2.15GHz and 1.6GHz (each couple core respectively). The internal memory is only 32GB – it should have been 64GB at least, although we are not sure of the price yet. But it can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card.

The performance is at par with Android Galaxy Tab devices, but the lack of latest Snapdragon 835 is noticeable. That being said, Android tablets do not usually go for high performance, because the usage is limited to couch surfing and basic productivity. 4GB RAM makes sure the usage is smooth.

Galaxy Tab S3 is coming with the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update. The UI is the usual one that Samsung uses which is very user-friendly. So there should not be any problem while surfing. Apart from this, the tablet is also featuring a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera.

Galaxy Tab S3 is for those who would also like to work while they are on the way. Keeping in mind the needs of the professional, Samsung has attached a pogo keyboard to this Galaxy tab. The keyboard has 17.25mm pitch key and a travel depth of 1.5mm which is not excellent, but good for little tasks.

Those who are accustomed to the Air Command feature like in Galaxy Note 7 will find the S-Pen more useful. More features can now be accessed with the Air Command feature. The pen which has a sensitivity of 4096 gives an almost pen-paper feel to work. Apart from this, you can now Smart Select to create GIFs from videos on Galaxy Tab S3. Overall, the stylus works smoothly and is more useful now.

Tab S3 is hell bent on giving us an all-inclusive experience. Hence apart from your regular tasks, you can also watch videos and listen to high-quality music here. There are four speakers on the display panel, and so the audio quality is on par with the video (HDR) here. The Quad-speakers senses when you auto rotate the screen, and it optimizes the sound accordingly.

The 30.4W battery will last up to 10 hours according to Samsung. But Pixel C has a 9243 mAh battery and performs almost the same functions. Here, Galaxy Tab S3 has a 6000 mAh battery, which makes us doubt its usefulness. Fast Charging feature is added in this Samsung tablet.

The pre-bookings start from 17th March. The price hasn’t been announced yet, but we guess with these specs, the price should be somewhere around $400. It will give stiff competition to iPad Pro priced at $550.

It will come in black and silver prime colors. The covers will also be available in green, white and black.

After a long time, we see a great Android Tablet that has some interesting features. The Samsung Galaxy Tab fans will surely not be disappointed. However, the prices are still a mystery, and they will decide whether it is worth the price or not. But one thing is for sure – Samsung does not have any immediate competition. So, Galaxy Tab S3 might be your only go-to tab. If that happens, your purchase will not be in vain, that’s for sure.
